You know who I am, my name you have heard, But in all Holy Scripture I speak not a word. In deepest sleep I have important dreams Meaning I listen to God’s will, not my own schemes. I act once I know God’s plan for me I protect my wife Mary and that precious baby. Who am I?

I am not seen, but I filled Elizabeth with joy, I overshadowed Mary so she gave birth to a boy. I filled Zechariah and he began to pray, “Blessed be the Lord” – still prayed to this day. I flow from Jesus to each one of you, I bring wisdom and knowledge and courage, too. Who am I?

Animals come to me when I’m filled with hay But on Christmas night I’m the place where He lay, Because His parents could not find any room in the inn. Could He really be special? He slept in a feeding bin! As the holy family was made, I held the child - Away in me He slept, tender and mild. What am I?

The words of a prayer are the first that I speak When I visit a woman who is poor and meek. I tell her not to fear, then tell her God’s Plan: She’ll give birth to a boy who’ll become a great man. Son of God he’ll be called and Son of the Most High – I wait for her answer. She agrees, “Here am I.” Who am I?

I am the most powerful man of my time - All bow to me! So I think it’s a crime That the birth of a baby is written in the same Paragraph beginning with my title and name! Luke mentions me to contrast great and small - I think this shows that God is God of us all. Who am I?

You have had me when you lie down to sleep. In the Bible, I come to those who rest so deep - When a person has me, it means they are wholly giving Their complete “yes” to the plan of the God of the Living. Joseph had me, as did all the men wise – An angel stepped into me to guide and advise. What am I?

I am a woman and a prophet, I’m now eighty-four, I’ve been a widow for years, but was married before. I live in the Temple, I stay here each day. I worship our God. I fast and I pray. When the Holy Family arrived, I spoke the Good News: Everyone praise God! Here comes salvation for the Jews! Who am I?

I am a holy city, important to the Jews, You will know me, too, you who sit in the pews. The Temple is here, the holiest of places, The Romans came here to make me head of their bases. Herod lived here, and to me the kings came, But Christ was not born here; he didn’t seek my fame. What am I?

I’m one of three gifts brought by the kings. Like the other two, I mean many things. As a gift for a baby, I am kind-of queer Since I show all people that God is near. When I am burned, smoke rises like a prayer. I’m a sign to show something holy goes there. What am I?

I am a priest, I’ve always served God, But when an angel appeared, I was over-awed. I couldn’t believe, I asked how can this be? How can God’s Plan involve my wife and me? God took my voice giving me more time to pray ‘Til I wrote “His name is John” on my son’s naming day. Who am I?

Mary and Joseph brought Jesus here; I am a most holy place-- Simeon beheld the small baby here and gazed into God’s face. Anna lived in me, never leaving God’s presence, People come here to pray, both Pharisees and peasants. When he was twelve, Jesus spent several days here, Learning about God from all who drew near. To save ALL people, the Lord Jesus came, That ALL knees might bend at the sound of his name. But the One God was known only by the Jews; Angels then won’t do to announce the Good News. That’s why I am a sign, seen by all nations up above. The wise men followed me to find the God of Love. What am I?

I reflect God’s glory, when I suddenly appear; I shock all the people, I cause them to fear. But I come to announce good news of great joy To them is born this day a saviour, a wee boy! I am followed by an army greater than any from Rome Who sing praises and offer peace, then return to God’s home. Who am I?

I am old, very old, and soon I must die, But first, God revealed, I would see with my eye The saviour of Israel, the one who is to come. I just held him in my arms, and I said to his mum, He will be a light for all nations, and a joy for you, But sorrow, like a sword, will pierce your heart, too. Who am I?

As far as I know, I’m king of the Jews, So I was not pleased to hear the news: Another had been born thought to be king. I pretended his praises I would gladly sing, When in Jerusalem arrived men from the east Looking for Bethlehem, “by no means least”. Who am I?

I am an oil, not clothes or a toy, So rather a strange gift for a new baby boy. When someone dies, to make the body smell nice, It’s wrapped in cloth with me, fragrant of spice. But I’m the gift never used, for the tomb was where Jesus rose from the dead! No body found there! What am I?

I am one of two writers to speak of Christ’s birth, I was born a Gentile, for what it is worth. I tell of shepherds, the lowest of the low, Visited by angels, invited to the show, While those of noble birth, Herod and Caesar, Were informed of nothing, not even a teaser. Who am I? (Adults, I include a little bit of "info" about the person or thing when I reveal the answer. Good time for a little catechism! You can have your children check the answer in the morning even if you already know that they solved it correctly.)

I’m called a prophet of the One Most High As an adult I’m seen as a very strange guy. I’m filled with the Spirit to prepare the Lord’s way, I baptize with water: “Repent!” I say. I’m a few months older than Jesus, my cousin; I had disciples of my own, at least a dozen. Who am I? P.S. Don't forget to check the answer to yesterday's riddle!

It is vital to God that ALL know of Christ’s birth, More important than gold, is this baby worth. We are the ones who spread the news: Salvation for all, born to the Jews. We are not Jewish, we come from afar, You know who we are - we followed the star. Who are we?

Hi, all! Apparently, you have to become a "member" to leave an answer to the riddles. (I just found out 🙄) If your child wishes to answer the riddles, you can sign up--it is easy and safe. You can use your email and create a password, or sign up through Facebook or Google (FB or Google saves your credentials). I don't receive your password; I can only see that your email address has become a member. God bless, Paula
