I am the most powerful man of my time -
All bow to me! So I think it’s a crime
That the birth of a baby is written in the same
Paragraph beginning with my title and name!
Luke mentions me to contrast great and small -
I think this shows that God is God of us all.
Who am I?

Caesar Augustus!
Luke begins the account of Jesus’ birth like this: "In those days a decree went out from Emperor Augustus that all the world should be registered.” (Luke 2:1) We remember that Israel was not a free country. The Romans had marched in with their armies and had taken over the country. Emperor (or Caesar) Augustus was the most powerful man in the world. What a contrast he is to the weak and powerless baby who is born six verses later! (Luke 2:7) And yet it is Jesus, not Augustus, who is known the world over so many centuries later.
