I am an oil, not clothes or a toy,
So rather a strange gift for a new baby boy.
When someone dies, to make the body smell nice,
It’s wrapped in cloth with me, fragrant of spice.
But I’m the gift never used, for the tomb was where
Jesus rose from the dead! No body found there!
What am I?

Myrrh!
Remember when the women came to the tomb to prepare Jesus’ body for burial? Myrrh was an expensive choice that could be used. It comes from a plant and is usually made into a sweet smelling oil, and it was used in preparing bodies for burial. The women probably had cheaper oils and spices. In any case, they didn’t have to use them, as Jesus had risen to new life.
